Thats an assuring feeling

World Anti-doping Agency president Craig Reedie claims the integrity of the Rio Olympics was not undermined despite some regrettable flaws in the athlete testing process. A 55-page report from WADAs independent observers painted a damning picture of anti-doping procedures at the Games, citing lack of co-ordination, insufficient resources and a significant shortfall on planned tests. The report said that on some days up to half of all planned tests due to be carried out in the Athletes Village had to be aborted because the athletes could not be found and the total number of completed tests was almost 500 fewer than hoped. While Reedie accepts there were serious problems on the ground, he does not believe the effort was fundamentally undermined. The IOC, who are responsible for the whole anti-doping effort at Olympic Games, made substantial efforts and they got through it, he said. There were major issues, however - logical issues - particularly on sample collections, and thats disappointing. What was the real problem was the business of sample collecting - tracing athletes to find out where they were. There were a number of major issues in Brazil. One was a lack of money. Secondly there was a lack of manpower and some of that worked its way through to the sample-collection process. That is regrettable. You simply had to make the process work as best you could. But, at the end of the day, our independent reports said that while it was disappointing, in general the integrity of the process was not undermined. The report does concede there were some outstanding efforts and a phrase I think they used was enormous resourcefulness and goodwill of some key doping personnel who actually made the system work. They got around 90 per cent of the projected numbers of sample collections. Watch NOW TV Watch Sky Sports for just £6.99. No contract. Reedie explained that one of the key issues related to athlete chaperones, who the report claims were provided with inadequate training and information.Athletes are called for sample collection by chaperones and unfortunately quite a large number of the planned chaperones either werent trained properly or some didnt even turn up, he said.So it was a manpower problem and then the details of how you find people in the village. You would go back later in the day and see if you could find them. You would keep doing it unless you didnt have the manpower to find them. Sebastian Coe is proposing to introduce Integrity Unit for athletics Meanwhile, IAAF president Sebastian Coe admits the reports alleging serious drug-test failings at Rio made for uncomfortable reading. The only thing I would say is I welcome reports like that, sometimes they are uncomfortable reading, but I would rather have those sorts of observations, said Coe, who is proposing to introduce an independent Athletics Integrity Unit, which will be responsible for doping matters, taking powers away from national associations. The testing itself is independent, he said. I think where we have fallen foul is around results management. That all too often has had national interest involved. We cannot survive as a sport unless clean athletes absolutely feel that they have the full force of a federation behind their legitimate attempts to be the best they can possibly be. Thats non-negotiable. Also See: Results & Medal Table Photo Galleries Team GB Basket Air Max 270 Homme Pas Cher . -- There were a lot of firsts for the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. Dallas hasnt ruled out the star quarterback for Sunday nights game against Philadelphia, but all signs point to Romos back injury pushing Kyle Orton into the starting role after two years of limited play as the backup. Surely Ortons name isnt the first that comes to mind for fans wanting a change after years of damaging interceptions, fumbles or, most infamously, the field goal flub when Romo dropped the snap on a kick that could have won his first playoff game in 2006. http://www.airmax270reactpascher.fr/fausse-air-max-270-2021/fausse-air-max-270-be-true.html . FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- Matt Schaubs cool presence in the huddle has the Falcons believing the offense can keep moving should starting quarterback Matt Ryans long string of consecutive starts end this season.Schaub, 35, is entering his 13th season with a return to Atlanta, his first NFL home, and the confidence earned from starting 92 of 141 career games with the Falcons, Houston, Oakland and Baltimore.Falcons coach Dan Quinn says the experience is valuable -- even though Ryan hasnt missed a start since 2009. Schaub has made a strong first impression with Quinn, who says the veteran has a real coolness about him. When the pressure is on, he kind of looks at you and smiles and says `This is what were going to do, Quinn said last week. Thats an assuring feeling, knowing thats an important job for us.Quinn hasnt decided on a plan for rotating his quarterbacks in Thursday nights preseason opener against Washington, he said. Sean Renfree and Matt Simms also are competing for a backup job.Ryans streak of 103 consecutive starts, including four playoff games, is the leagues third-longest among active quarterbacks, behind Eli Manning (194) and Philip Rivers (169). Even so, Ryan has taken a beating: He was sacked at least 30 times each of the last three seasons -- the most in his career. If Ryans streak continues, Schaub will be just another backup in a baseball cap. Even so, he said he likes being back in Atlanta and never considered retiring after last season.Keep going? There was never any doubt, Schaub said. It was just a matter of the opportunity.Schaub previously played with offensive coordiinator Kyle Shanahan and quarterbacks coach Matt LaFleur in Houston.dddddddddddd He said his relationship with Ryan also made Atlanta a good fit.I talked with him and my ability to lend a hand, help out, be ready to go and if called upon I can be there and cut loose for these guys, Schaub said. When Schaub began his career with Atlanta in 2004 as a backup to Michael Vick, the Falcons were still holding training camp at Furman University. Now, hes enjoying camp life in the teams comparatively luxurious dormitory on the grounds of their practice facility, where, he said, the air conditioning is always on and the beds are comfortable over here.Tight end Jacob Tamme said Schaub has been hitting people all over the field in practice.Look, I dont know what age youre supposed to play to as a quarterback, Tamme said. I dont think his age is doing anything to him. ... He understands the offense, as a veteran knows the ins and outs of this offense and football at this level. He adds a great presence here.Game notes S Keanu Neal, the rookie first-round pick, has a trunk injury and is 50-50 for Thursday nights game, Quinn said. Neal did not practice Monday. ... Also held out Monday were TE Levine Toilolo (hand) and RB Terron Ward (ankle). Quinn said he didnt know if Toilolo and Ward would be cleared for the game, but that all of them dont look like long-term things, Neal included.---Online: AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and AP NFL Twitter feed: www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '
