Founded in 2014, HappyFresh is Southeast Asia's first Instacart-style grocery delivery service. It expanded into five markets before closing in Taiwan and the Philippines in 2016, and continues to operate in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

In a press release, HappyFresh said it had "experienced unprecedented growth" over the past 18 months. as customers turn to grocery delivery services during the pandemic with a 10x to 20x increase in traffic in three countries.
