Swedish Prime Minister Retires After the parliament voted no
Sweden's parliament has voted to overthrow Stefan Lofven as prime minister in a vote of no confidence today. It gave Mr Loffen, the leader of the Social Democrat, a week to resign. and authorize the President of the House of Representatives to recruit a new government or hold elections asap
The parliament voted no confidence slot pg in Mr Loffen. with 181 votes from a total of 349 seats in the House of Representatives.
Mr Loffen was the first Prime Minister of Sweden to resign from his post by a vote in the House of Commons. By Mr. Loffen will come out to press conference again today.
The left-wing party has blamed Mr Loffen for creating a crisis in Sweden, saying it was "not a leftist party who surrendered to the Social Democrats' government. But it is the government that surrenders to the left-wing party and the Swedish people.”
When Parliament enters a state of stasis It is therefore unclear who the Speaker of the House of Representatives will turn to form a new government if Mr Loffen resigns. Opinion polls show that the center-left and the centre-right have similar scores, so an immediate election may also yield ambiguous results.
